Psalm 23 --- One of the most
well-known passage of scriptures which is often referenced in times of distress
to provide a person a measure of comfort and assurance. It's time for deeper
reflection on what this passage really is conveying about the relationship
between God and Man.

"Thy rod and staff they comfort me."
Significant Points
When Shepherd is afield in country with flock, it is customary to carry minimum of equipment.
Shepherd's main weapon of defense for himself and sheep: the rod. The rod is ever ready in the Shepherd's hand.

Shepherd uses rod to to part wool to determine condition of skin, cleanliness of fleece, and conformation of the body.
The Staff identifies Shepherd as a shepherd. Unique instrument used for care and management of sheep and only sheep.
The Staff --- designed, shaped, and adapted especially to fit the needs of sheep. Normally a long slender stick often with crook/hook on end. Selected with care by Shepherd: shaped, smoothed, and cut to best suit own personal use. Used only for sheep benefit.
