Water, Kiss, and Oil

"And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment...And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment  --- Luke 7:37-38; 44-46

Worship of Jesus Christ

 It's Personal

Water --- (Service) ---  Due to the prevalence of dusty roads, it is customary to wash the feet of house guests. It was act of hospitality and service.  "But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant." --- Matthew 23:11

Kiss --- (Love) --- It is customary to greet one another with a 'holy kiss' (cheek-to-cheek) --- an expression of God's love towards all humans. It's a token of brotherhood. It is not an erotic gesture. "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."  --- John 13:35

Oil --- (Respect) --- It is customary to anoint certain house guests with oil as an act of hospitality. In the scriptures, 'anointing' signifies divine consecration and approval. It's not charismatic fervor   "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."  --- Colassians 3:17
